TTPT's Vision, Mission, Goals & Objectives

  Our Vision & Mission

  
 

The Turquoise Trail Preservation Trust (TTPT) was established to:
Preserve the intrinsic character and enhance enjoyment of the Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway.

To accomplish our vision, we will engage, educate and partner with residents, governmental agencies, elected officials and organizations (historic, preservation, civic, business, etc).


 
  Goals & Objectives: On-going Activities & Projects

  
 

Partnership Development:  Work with other historic, preservation, civic and business organizations to ensure we have a unified approach to Trail preservation and enhancement. Share and identify common Visions, Missions, Goals & Objectives.
Current partnerships: Turquoise Trail Association (TTA), New Mexico Tourism Department, East Mountain Regional Trail Council (EMRTC),  Mid-Region Council of Governments of New Mexico  
Potential future partnerships: East Mountain Historical Society, Cerrillos Historical Society, Friends of the Sandia Mountains
  
Governmental Agencies & Elected Official Interface:  Work with the state, counties and villages along the Trail to ensure the intrinsic character of the Trail is preserved and enhanced (i.e. Growth Plans, Zoning, Land Use, etc).
Current projects: Santa Fe County (Sustainable Land Development Plan (SLDP), Open Space), Bernalillo County (North 14 Sector Plan), U.S. Dept of Interior (Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Resource Management Plan (RMP))
 
Public Lands/Open Spaces Preservation & Development:  Work with public and open space land managers (Forest Service, BLM, Counties, Cities, etc) to preserve and develop recreational use of public lands along the Trail.
Current projects: Gutierrez Open Space (OS), Golden Open Space (OS), San Pedro Mountains.


 
  Goals & Objectives: Special Activities & Projects

  
 

Gateway Signage: Provide signage and/or monuments at both gateways to the Trail.
Current project: MRCOG South Gateway TIP - Identify support for the signage with other organizations along the Trail.  If support exists, finalize design, location and funding sources.

New Mexico Scenic Historic Markers:  Work with the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division to have additional markers installed along the Trail to educate the public and increase enjoyment of the Trail.
Current project: Identify support for the concept with other organizations along the Trail.  If support exists, we are recommending the following locations: Golden, Sandia Park (Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)), Railroads (Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) & Cerrillos Coal Railroad Company (CCR)) , Oritz Mountains, San Pedro Mountains, Paa-ko Ruins, San Marcos, etc

State Bike Route 14: Work with the New Mexico Department of Transportation to achieve this designation for the whole Trail.
Current project: Seeking approval.

Auto “Trail” Tour:  Develop an Auto Tour program to enhance travel along the Trail.
Current project: Identify support for the concept with other organizations along the Trail.  If support exists, secure program & financial support, design signs, identify tour stops, research and create a tour guide.
 
Road “Trail” Rally: Hold a public Road Rally and Scavenger Hunt on the Trail.  The Rally would increase awareness, utilization and enjoyment of the Trail.  The rally could be an annual fundraising vehicle for the TTPT and other organizations along the Trail.
Current project: Identify support for the event with other organizations along the Trail.  If support exists, create a cross organization committee and proceed with implementation.


 
  Goals & Objectives: Organization Activities & Projects

  
 

TTPT.org Web Site: Develop & maintain a TTPT website to assist both Trail residents and visitors discover the scenic, natural, historic, cultural and recreational opportunities along the Trail.
Current projects: Formal launch and publicity campaign.  Work with local historians and other organizations along the Trail to enhance and expand the content.

Administration: Perform the necessary duties to keep us functioning as an organization (i.e. records, tax filing, treasury, meeting minutes and agendas, email lists, data bases, etc).

Fundraising: Organize income generating events and/or apply for grants.
